When The Swashbuckling Had To Stop - By Steve Spence

As we wound our endless way, the sun
sank lower & tower behind our backs, &
the shadows of evening began to creep
around us. Here in the hills, will the
weather change? Now it is dark, Bats.
swoop & squeak outside the tightly
shuttered windows & I can hear them
arguing & knocking over the empty
milkbottles. Yet views of the surrounding
countryside are ravishing & you can even
get a drink at the cafe nearby. Three miles
below town, the pirate ship stopped at
the mouth of a woody hollow & tied up.
Cool air travelled pleasantly over her face
& legs yet the idea of lying in the sun all
day just to go brown filled her with horror.

He undressed with excessive caution &
fell asleep, congratulating himself that
nobody knew of his escapade. Faced with
this resurgence of piratical activity, I made
the mistake of trying to learn something
from the wisdom of crowds. As the tempest
rose higher & higher, the sail tore loose
from its fastenings & went winging away in
the blast. Alice stamped her foot, wavered
a clement, then irresistibly impelled by an
impish spirit, slapped me on the cheek.
“You're one of those lean, hungry, restless
types that put the wind up Julius Caesar''.
On the surface, the comparison seems
almost justified, yet the simple fact is
we were soundly beaten.

No one really knew what was going on
but somehow it all worked out beautifully.
What is certain is that the noise emanating
from the stage will be extreme, dangerously
wonderful & utterly singular. It was believed
that the search for the bodies had been a
fruitless effort because the drowning must
have occurred in mid-channel. At first glance,
it's hard to know what to make of him as
he spasms with exquisite control through
his blues struts. As the economy moves to
a lower gear, how many fewer pirates will
we need to employ in the future. Even
after an indisputable demise, many corpses
have adventurous lives. ''Hello, this is the
head of John the Baptist speaking”.
